As a part of the learning intervention designed for their Project Directors (senior technology leaders), Action Learning Projects is one of the learning levers. Participants come together for a day to attend a Peer Learning group before commencing on implementing their Action Learning Project. The day long intervention leverages Appreciative Inquiry, Consulting Clinics, Knowledge Management Principles which helps leaders to fine-tune their respective Action Learning Project, get ideas, constructive critiquing from their peers and subsequent support mechanism from peers as they implement the Action Learning Project.
The Siemens Leaders' Challenge - Action Learning for Senior Managers *Achim Wolter (Germany), Siemens, Chief Operating Officer, Siemens Leadership Excellence Siemens has over the last years built a comprehensive curriculum for its leaders and top talents from corporate management down to first time managers. Building on this experience, the Siemens Leadership Excellence organization is currently working on setting up an additional program for its senior manager based on Action Learning. Under the name "Siemens Leaders' Challenge" this program will assign unresolved corporate business challenges as a developmental stretch to global teams of senior leaders. Experimenting with a Coach-Facilitated Action Learning Methodology for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Entrepreneurs in China*Ira Cohen (China), Vice President, and *Gemma Qin (China), Manager, Universal Ideas Various Action Learning approaches have reached certain segments of the greater China business community. Very limited application of Action Learning has reached the small to medium sized enterprise (SME). The nature of China’s enterprise, cultural and societal leadership styles have been predominantly one of telling versus one of asking questions. Entrepreneurs come to realize that at a certain stage in their business development leading by telling has its shortcomings and alternative methods of leadership are essential for the sustainability of their organization. Twenty-five entrepreneur business leaders formed five cohorts (sets) for our Action Learning study.

*Sustainable Change from Within Using Companywide Action Learning The energy supply sector has undergone tremendous changes within the last few years and probably will experience even more in the years to come. E.ON Bayern is an important regional supplier, who was very successful and well adjusted to the traditional quasi-monopolistic structure. With deregulation of the market many transformations were needed concerning structures, processes and culture. Action Learning was used to support and achieve these mental changes to empower managers and employees to successfully deal with these challenges. The session will demonstrate how action learning was introduced with many small steps, and always steered from within, to achieve sustainability in an organization which initially was not prepared to do so or - in Mike Pedler’s terms - hardly possessed the organizational readiness.

Among the frequently asked questions of Action Learning are the following: Is Action Learning a “Western concept”? What is the nature of “learning” in Asian cultures and what are the consequences for Action Learning? Is Action Learning more than a method or technique? Is it also a philosophy and if so, what are the ethical and moral foundations of Action Learning? This session addresses these questions. Action Learning and Buddhism *Action Learning Guided by Tao for Life-Long Learning *K S Sam (Singapore), Kwong Wai Siew Peck San Theng and formerly Part-Time Lecturer, Nanyang Technological University "Change is the only constant in life”. We need on-going learning to tackle changes. This presentation will apply wisdom from the ancient Chinese classic text, Tao Te Ching, written 2,500 years ago by the philosopher Lao Tzu, focusing specifically on relevant aspects of learning. Following which, a model “Action Learning Guided by Tao” is proposed. The model will help in initiating and re-initiating life-long learning. The presentation will be concluded with an exercise that applies this model to gain some new knowledge that evolves dynamically with change.
